Visit by Janette Sadik - Khan and the Team from NACTO on Aundh Smart Street.

Janette Sadik - Khan, the Ex Commissioner of New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) visited the Aundh Smart Street on Nov 28th, 2018 at 6 : 00 pm and was accompanied by the representatives from NACTO Ms. Skye Duncan and Mr. Abhimanyu Prakash. She appreciated the efforts taken by everyone involved and commented on the state of the streets around the City of Pune.

Streets are meant for people and its the people who should design and use them. Considering the commercial nature of the DP Road, she quoted " Cars don't Shop, but People do ... " suggesting the prioritization of pedestrian infrastructure over vehicles.

Janette Sadik - Khan

One of the leading voices on Urban Transportation Policy, Janette Sadik-Khan served as New York City’s transportation commissioner from 2007 to 2013 under Mayor Michael Bloomberg, overseeing historic changes to the city’s streets—closing Broadway to cars in Times Square, building nearly 400 miles of bike lanes and seven rapid bus lines, launching the largest bike share program in North America and creating more than 60 plazas citywide . She is internationally respected for her trans-formative redesigns of New York City streets and rapid - implementation strategies that are being replicated today in cities around the world. She is the author of Street Fight : Handbook for an Urban Revolution.

She implemented an ambitious program to improve safety, mobility and sustainability, and ensure a state of good repair on the city’s roads, bridges and ferries. At Bloomberg Associates, she works with mayors around the world to reimagine and redesign their cities with innovative projects that can be developed quickly and inexpensively.

Sadik-Khan is the chair of the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO), an organization of transportation commissioners in over 40 US cities, and is a member of the board of directors of both the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) and the Regional Plan Association (RPA).
